When I decided to publish Faith in the Fire, I thought I was finally putting one story to rest.
In some ways, I was.
That book came from a very real place in my life—from experiences, questions, struggles, faith, motherhood, and the things I had spent years trying to understand. Writing it gave those experiences a place to land.
But somewhere along the way, I realized something:
That was never the whole story.
I have always had other stories in me.
Some have been little more than ideas I’ve carried around for years. Some have characters I’ve thought about long after I stopped writing. Some have been sitting in old files, waiting for me to open them again. And some have simply lived in my imagination, quietly asking, “Are you ready yet?”
I think I finally am.
Faith in the Fire will always be an important part of my story as a writer. It was the book that helped me find my voice and gave me the courage to take writing seriously.
But it doesn’t have to be the only kind of book I write.
There are stories I want to tell about families and relationships, hope and heartbreak, secrets and second chances, ordinary people facing unexpected circumstances, and the complicated, beautiful ways people find their way forward.
Some will be rooted in things I understand personally. Others will come entirely from imagination.
And that’s what makes this next chapter exciting.
I’m not leaving Faith in the Fire behind. I’m simply making room for what comes next.
One book was never the whole story.
It was the beginning.
